The Hostal Alhambra is located on the second floor of a Palace-home in which Eugenia de Montijo (French empress) lived when she was a young child. Opened in April 2009, it is a mixture of classicism and modernity, with the same quality as the old palaces. Its rooms have been soundproofed and decorated in a warm and elegant style with maximum attention to detail: from hairdryers, mini-bars, plasma TV, Wi-Fi, etc.

August/2018 Someone from Wenatchee, Washington State (USA) thinks:

  • Overall rating: 10
  • Would you recommend it? Yes
  • Positive: Location, quality and size of room, shower, balcony. This was, by far, the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in. In fact, it was luxurious for having the basic amenities of a hostel. Everyone talks about the Hotel Europa across the Puerta del Sol, and I've also stayed there, but Alambra Cerezal is much nicer and the location is equally as good.
  • Negative: Some of the sketchy characters that are allowed to hang out at the corner of Espoz y Mina and the Puerta del Sol harassing tourists. But this is the mayor's fault for allowing it; not the hotel's.
  • I RECOMMEND it for... Young travelers, Older travelers, Families, Couples, Classic style lovers, Modern style lovers, Business travelers, Healthy lifestyle
  • I recommend it especially AGAINST...
  • Cleanliness: 10 Very clean!
  • Location: 10 Only a few steps from the Sol commuter train station (Cercanías), the metro, restaurants, etc. Probably a 10 minute walk from the Prado. A 5-minute walk from the Plaza Mayor.
  • Common facilities and services: 10 It was what you expect for being a hostel, rather than a hotel.
  • Staff: 10
  • Quietness: 10 It was very quiet considering that it is a downtown hotel. If you don't want noise, don't stay in the center of the nightlife capital of the world! But it really was pretty quiet even though we had a room that faced the street.
  • Room: 10 Excellent! It was a clean room in one of those grand old buildings in the center of Madrid. The bathroom was excellent, and the shower was impressive. In fact, it was the best shower I've ever had in Spain. The A/C also worked really well, which is uncommon in Madrid (at least in hostels). The wifi worked great and there was a nice amount of desk space.
  • Value for money: 10 Excellent value for the money.
