• Location: 5 Near a Metro which made it possible to go anywhere in the city. Within walking distance of Plaza Mayor.
• Common facilities and services: 5 Breakfasts were perfectly adequate, offering a wide range of hot & cold food to suit most tastes.
• Staff: 5 Desk staff were helpful, especially as one of us can speak reasonable Spanish.
• Quietness: Not rated Its location at the intersection of six roads, with heavy bus & car traffic all day & half the night, plus ambulance & police sirens 24/7, not to mention fire engines taking off from the station opposite the hotel every once in a while, made for an exceptionally noisy external environment. And to top it all, the rooms had paper-thin walls, so conversations in adjacent rooms (and other activities) could be heard. Ear-plugs a must, but they only mitigate and do not eliminate the noise.
• Room: 7.5 Comfortable beds, nice bathroom, plenty of cupboard and drawer space.
• Value for money: 2.5 Madrid hotels are expensive, but for what this hotel offers, £100 a night is excessive.
